OK, what ate my blueberry bushes?!
So, I have 6 blueberry bushes planted at my in-law's house.
Two of them have been eaten. Not the berries, but the actual bushes, leaves, stems and all. What kind of animal does this? I have seen rabbits and groundhogs around there, should I just start shooting everything on sight? |
Re: OK, what ate my blueberry bushes?!
DEER!
Big antlered rats did this to me couple times over the years. Wouldn't mind sharing a bit, but it's one of God's dumber animals that eats a plant down to the trunk and kills it. Again and again. I guess I'm the dumbass though for feeding them $30 bushes again and again, Hah! No more. They leave the raspberries and blackberries alone, so that's what I got nowadays. Oh and yes- start shooting everything in sight, 4-legged or not dammit!:bear_w00t: Let's light this candle already. |
Re: OK, what ate my blueberry bushes?!
Hmm. Are you allowed to just shoot deer in your yard if they are eating your plants?

Re: OK, what ate my blueberry bushes?!
You ought be allowed to shoot anything in your yard.
Deer, rabbit, woodchuck, neighbor's dog, Jehovas, census-taker:bear_tongue:. Anyway , here (you'll have to go buy the berries now, but that'll add some irony to the meal): pan-seared venison with blueberries, shallots and red wine http://www.jamieoliver.com/core/imag...s/lrg_1010.jpg David Loftus |

It would be best to wait until deer season. Sulpher will deter them a little. Or pee around the bushes. |
Re: OK, what ate my blueberry bushes?!
i think if you shoot at the deer out of season, or without a license, you are breaking the law. however, if they are accidentally standing too close to your tannerite targets when you are shooting, i don't see how you could be held liable.....
also, pungee sticks.... |
Re: OK, what ate my blueberry bushes?!
It depends on your state. In Missouri, (out of city limits) it's legal to shoot any animal (protected species exempt) that can be considered a nuisance. If a deer is eating your orchard, feel free to shoot it. It doesn't matter if it's deer season or not.

Re: OK, what ate my blueberry bushes?!
It sounds like a jackalope. They're pretty tricky. They tend to like to survey the place from higher ground. I'd personally recommend placing three 330 conibear traps on the roof of the nearest house.

Just make sure you've harvested whatever might be left before using that thing! :4_1_72:

Re: OK, what ate my blueberry bushes?!
What neck of the woods are you in? I live in the Florida panhandle and my woods are full of blueberries. You can pick a gallon in about 15 minutes every day until the season is over.
My tomatoes are a different story. Went out last Sunday morning and the leaves were gone on almost every plant. There were giant green caterpillars all over them. Kill! Kill! |
